Files, Organized

A great deal was found on these file folders.
What a wonderful opportunity
to add a little order to our office.
We are paring down some of our furniture
so there will be less to move when we sell our home.

These folders kept hitting the top of the file cabinet.
That got old real fast.
As we'll be keeping one of the desks
in the office, I wanted to make it as efficient as possible.
While organizing our files,
I took the time to purge what was no longer needed,
shredding any private information.
These files will get repurposed for tutoring games.

I color-coded items according to category.
For some folks, colors work.
For others, it's numbers, letters or pictures.

Whatever works for you is all that matters.
It sure makes finding needed papers easier!

  1. I gotta do this. Organize our files and papers that is. Isn't it a great feeling to have things in order?

  2. Kim-Yeah, it sure makes life easier. You're smart to get started while you are so young.

  5. Embarassingly I'd never thought of my files as really needing to be organized, but now I think they do. Great system.

  7. Colour works for me...you got lots of colours in your files. How soon before you sell up?

  9. I used to participate in one of those websites where you earn points for taking surveys - finally got sick of it because I kept getting inundated with e-mails about new surveys then "not qualifying" for them, so it was a waste of time. Anyhow, with the points I had earned, I chose to receive a portable scanner. I absolutely LOVE that thing!! I've gone from a 4-drawer filing cabinet to just a small container of essential papers. The rest has all been scanned and stored (with a back up elsewhere). As for the folders, I'm in the colored camp. I'll use blue for medical, green for financial, etc. That started years back when I was still using a rolodex. I color coded the cards for business reasons that way. :) [#TALU]

  10. I did this a long time ago - well not the color coding but all the rest. Oh it was SUCH a mess before that. We were a military family, we are finally settled now. But it was nice to arrive at our new duty station and not have to organize papers. That is the last thing you want to do.
