Happy Christmas!

Twas the day before Christmas and all through the home
Every creature was ready, yes, even our gnome.
The lights in the garden, a new Christmas trend,
Welcomed casual visitors and each seasoned friend.

The cookies all baked and delivered on time
Caused a profusion of smiles and feelings sublime.
The cards mailed early with love and affection,
Spread thoughts of good cheer and honest reflection.

Our Carolina Christmas will be perfectly quiet,
Without a concern for our usual diet.
Good food, company, and health all around,
Keep us counting the blessings that always abound.

The cool winter weather has aided us all
In fact, it seems that we almost missed Fall.
Our heaviest coats remain at the ready,
For snowfall we wish, be it slow and quite steady.

May your holiday be blissful and bright
Enjoy the merriment on this festive night.
And celebrate loved ones ever so dear
And the time spent together at this time of year.

"God bless us, everyone."

Holiday Poem (Encore)

We hope you are enjoying this holiday season.
Here's a little ditty penned last year
that we thought we'd share again.
(It happens to be even more true this year.)

Twas the Week Before Christmas
by daisy

'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the home
Not a creature was ready, not even our gnome.
The tree, freshly bought, was barren and green
The ornaments, still packed, have yet to be seen.

No lights on the windows, no glow from the eaves
No cookies yet baked for Santa when he leaves.
Not one blow-up snow globe adorns our fine yard
And folks will have to settle for a Christmas e-card.

The mild winter weather has not helped at all
It's still in the 70's when we hit nightfall.
Where's that Yuletide feeling, the magic, the wonder
I think Mother Nature may have made a blunder.

Though things may not be merry and bright
We'll enjoy the time we have on this special night.
To celebrate our loved ones ever so dear
And the time we have together at this time of year.

Autumnal Equinox

Autumn
by daisy
Welcome Autumn in all your splendor
Changing leaves and crisp, cool mornings.
Coaxing us to get outside
And drink in every fresh, deep breath.

Craft fairs and football games
Invite us to venture forth
To begin new endeavors
And share good times.

The harvest table will soon be full
Of favorites old and new.
Yam casserole and baked corn pudding
Sure to please most every palate.

The scent of fall stirs thoughts of youth
Piles of leaves to pounce upon
Hot cider and buggy rides
Relishing time spent with friends.

Autumn, we greet you with open arms
And thank you for your many gifts.
Be sure to take your time and linger
So that we may savor every moment.

Earth Day Poem

Our Dear Mother Earth
by daisy
The day in springtime
When we celebrate this place
We call home sweet home.

The soil, air and sea
Which help us enjoy each day
Her gifts abundant.

The earth, rich with life
Warmed by the sun's brilliant rays
Ready for planting.

The air in its flight
Bringing to us morning scents
Of lilac and dew.

The ocean, so grand
Its majesty unequaled
Magic in movement.

The role we now play
As stewards to Mother Earth
Providing Her care.

Every one of us
Can do something every day
To nurture Her soul.

So thankful are we
May we care for you always
Our dear Mother Earth.

Happy Earth Day!

The Dawn of Spring

The Dawn of Spring
by daisy
Morning in its quiet, patient way
The stillness awaiting the hopes of day.
Birds singing so sweet and clear
Signaling that spring is here.

Keeping in mind each garden chore
As we come upon the season's door.
So much to do, so little time
Before temperatures begin their climb.

Buds awaken, blooms explode
Gracing us with beauty bestowed.
A virtual symphony of colors and hues
Nurtures our souls with beckoning views.

Butterflies commence their waking
Cocoons will soon be in the making.
The cycle of life beginning anew
From the onset of the first morning dew.

Hearts are full this time of year
When nature abounds with hope and cheer.
Fostering faith in dreams being fulfilled
While God's overflowing bounty is spilled.

Valentine Verse

I recently took on the challenge of penning a poem
for each significant holiday.

I'm enjoying stretching my wings a bit.

Reservations
by daisy

Roses are red,
Daisies are white.
Will you be my valentine
On this special night?

I'll offer you biscuits,
I'll offer you grits.
I'll give you red cherries
Without any pits.

Your tank will be filled
With two-dollar gas.
I'll stuff every freezer
With large-mouthed bass.

Your house will be cleaned
From the roof to the floor.
I'll launder your uniforms
Need I say more?

We'll visit the ocean,
We'll go to the hills.
I promise to make sure
And pay all the bills.

What else can I do
To please you, my pet?
On second thought,
You don't deserve me just yet.

Have a sweetheart of a weekend, y'all!

Happy New Year!

After my take on 'Twas the Night Before Christmas,
my friend Faye challenged me to come up with a poem
for each new holiday.
I make no promises, but this one is just for her.
(Sung to the tune of "Happy Birthday to You")
Everybody, sing!

daisy's ditty
by daisy

Happy New Year to you!
May your wishes come true.
Be blessed on this new day,
And the rest of them too!

May twenty-sixteen
Bring you tasty cuisine
Eat well and be certain
That your plate's always clean.

May you keep yourself well,
In your efforts, excel.
Take care of your body
And you'll feel just swell.

Take time for yourself
You're an important elf.
Do something exciting,
Don't sit on the shelf.

Your garden will grow,
As you may well know.
If tended with fervor,
The veggies will show.

Some silence is key
But not often free.
Be sure to enjoy it,
Before it does flee.

Happy 2016!
I have a feeling it's gonna be a banner year!
Continued blessings in the New Year!
