Maple Hill Hop

I was saddened when Jean stopped hosting
Bloomin' Tuesday a few months back.
I'm working on a new hop that pays homage to her.

Maple Hill Hop
"Puter" is not my native language,
so bear with me as I try to figure this out.

Here's what's going on at Maple Hill this week.

morning glory

periwinkle

Guess who's baaaa-aack!

dill seed

parsley

The lemons from our tree have never yielded edible fruit.
This year, they seem to be turning yellow earlier than any other year.
Maybe this is the year we get some for juicing!

I'm so excited that our beans are coming up!
They were planted in the square-foot bed...

as well as in a couple of planters.

Willya look at this?
I'm growin' snap peas, people!
Whoo-hooo!!!

The beets are showing up right on time.
Thanks to my farmer friends, Faye & Lynn,
I feel more confident that we will actually be eating well this fall.

A fresh layer of pine straw mulch was applied this weekend.

It aids in moisture retention and keeps weeds at bay.

A couple of stray sunflowers decided that they want to welcome in autumn.

butterfly vine

An array of zinnias are still hanging around the backyard.
Gotcha!

daisy & salvia

zinnia

moonflower bud

plumbego

native salvia

salvia & jasmine

cotton bud & beautyberry

This is one of the sweetest zinnias I've seen in a long time.
It reminds me of a sea anemone.

A neighbor "borrowed" some magnolia seeds from another neighbor.
I told her I would try to grow her one.
It took about 3 weeks for this to pop up, but it finally did.
Won't she be surprised when I leave this on her porch!

I could get used to these beautiful autumn days.
Whatcha been up to?

  1. I hope you get your ripe lemon--how neat to be able to grow your own.
So funny seeing you "starting" seeds at a time of year that we are done. Part of me is envious, but part of me is ready to relax and enjoy the inside of the house again. Remind me I said that when March rolls around!! LOL!

    1. Me too!
I think you deserve a nice, long rest. More time for planning the next garden, eh?

  2. Hooray for the blog hop AND for the sugar snaps!! :) Beautiful photos. We are having unbelievably mild weather here so I've been putting off getting the garden set for next year since I'm still harvesting. Who would have thought????

    1. Aren't they the sweetest things? And they keep our mosquito population down.
