Dreams Moving Forward

"All our dreams can come true,
if we have the courage to pursue them."
-Walt Disney

If you've read daisy's dream just below our header,
you know that we've been itchin' to head for higher ground
for some time.
We waited for a definitive sign.
Well, last week we got it.

Big K was up for a promotion at work.
He'd been doing the job already for a few months,
after his coworker retired.
We figured he had a good chance of getting it.
He already knew the job, and financially, it was a blessing.

I had a feeling about it the day before we officially got the news.
Keeping in mind that we live in a deed-restricted HOA community,
ya know what happened?
On my morning walk, there was a chicken at the end of the block.
Yeah.
I'm not talkin' Perdue on a grill,
a real, live chicken mozying through one of my neighbor's front lawns.
That gave me a clue as to where we were headed.
I believe in signs...

He didn't get the promotion.
We've pondered why as he certainly deserved it
and proved that he could do the job.
He has a strong work ethic
and always goes above and beyond to get the job done.
We considered fighting it,
but ultimately, we decided,
this was our chance to move on.

After years of talking about moving to North Carolina
to start our homestead,
we finally have the ability to go for it.
So many times this intention has been written in my daily journal.

Our vision board is loaded with wishes, desires
and hopes for the future.
Now we can get started on making them come true.

Although we have been talking about this plan for a while,
it didn't stop us from living our life.
To my way of thinking, God wants us to be happy,
no matter where we are.
We may not be in the location we yearn for,
but we can still make a good life as long as we're together.
That's what we've done.
Finding local pesticide-free produce
and then being mentored by such an amazing couple of farmers
was preparing me to strike out on my own.
Starting this blog and learning so many helpful skills
will help us keep continuity in our lives during the changes.

One thing that's become apparent to me in the past few years,
is that the less you struggle with what comes your way,
the easier your life flows.
Once I realized this, so many things have gotten better.
Listen for God's whispers and do what feels right.

We are very excited to be able to begin this next phase of our lives.
We've never lived anywhere but Florida as a family,
and Big K and I have lived here most of our lives.
We know that it will be challenging,
especially for Lil' Guy, who has difficulty with change,
but overall, we feel strongly
that this is the step we are destined to take.

I look forward to a more seasonal way of life,
enjoying the simple pleasures of a rural reality
while working on creating a superb quality of life for ourselves
and helping others do the same.

Onward and upward!

What advice do you have
for minimizing the daunting task of relocating?

"I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge -- myth is more potent than history
-- dreams are more powerful than facts -- hope always triumphs over experience --
laughter is the cure for grief -- love is stronger than death."
-Robert Fulghum

  2. Wow - I'm so sorry that the promotion didn't come but I think you're right.....it may be the push you needed. Congrat's to having the courage to make the changes. It's hard, we moved to a state we'd only visited once, on a whim. We decided we could always move again if it didn't work. Of course, it's more difficult with children, but I'm sure he will love and embrace the new life after he settles. I wish you TONS of luck as moving is never easy. You have us - your online friends, when things seem a bit rough. :)

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Staci. We are hoping this is our last move. I have to tell you that reading about your move really inspired me. I was amazed to read how y'all went about it. That's trust! ;0D

  3. The key to a successful move to someplace far away is to TAKE YOUR TIME. Don't get in a rush to find something. And really, we didn't do this, but I know that HIRING a reputable moving company would have been so much less stress on us than the do-it-yourself job we did the last time.
I'm so very very happy for you.
Best of luck to your family.

    1. Yeah, I think we will probably rent for a year until we get the feel of the town we are looking at. We will definitely hire out for the move.
      Thanks for your encouragement, Sue.

  5. That is exciting news...the good Lord knows what he is doing and by not getting the promotion he is telling you to follow your dreams. My one piece of advice that comes after a couple long distance moves is get rid of all the clutter that may be crowding your life and don't take it with you. If you have not used something within the last year don't take the time or money to move it. Can't wait to follow your adventure.

    1. I agree with you that God's sign is loud and clear.
Thanks for the advice. Fortunately, we've been getting rid of things for the last year or so, in anticipation. Glad you're here.

  7. Just found you through the barn hop. You sound like you are in the same position we are in. We want to move, strike out on our own. Just waiting for a sign. We are ready, but we just haven't been given a sign. We have to sell before we can move, so it may make things difficult.
My advice is to take your time. Don't rush it. Whether you rent or purchase from the beginning, find something that speaks to you. Know beyond a doubt that it is home. My daughter doesn't do well with change, I try to let her be a part of the process and make it exciting. We have looked at tons of properties in the past few months and our kids have went with us to every one of them. My youngest is two, she doesn't completely understand, but we bring her along for the ride!

  8. Wow! I'm so sorry about your husband's job, but I think your heart and attitude is truly in the right place. I'm usually the one to pout and whine and moan when I should take it as a sign. You are awesome - best of luck!

  9. How exciting. As you said, here's your opportunity to make the change you've dreamed of. We experienced much the same push and the result? We now live & work on a Northeast Texas ranch that speaks to our hearts. It's absolutely AMAZING. All you can do is prepare best you can then close your eyes and jump right in. 10. You will LOVE NC :) I just moved here one year ago, from New Hampshire, and I can't imagine living anywhere else. I was stuck in an apartment for a year, but now have an amazing rental where I can do my gardening and practice skills to get ready to buy my own place next year.

  11. I'm inspired by you, so many times we "think" we know what is best for us, and of course hindsight tells us better, but getting through it is difficult. We are there right now..looking for onward and upward...it's not for the faint of heart is it?

  12. Wow! I move cross-country several years ago and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I met my now-husband and we have a little slice of paradise. Our dream is to have a larger space to grow but for now we are content.

Good for you!!! Thanks for sharing at the Creative Home & Garden Hop.
Looking forward to seeing what you share this week.
