Seeds for a Song

Lincolnton Farmers' Market garden

As part of the Master Gardener training,
volunteer hours are required before certification is acquired.
This past Saturday was a great occasion
for me to fulfill some of those requirements.

Seed Song Natural Rustic Sign Singing Post

Thanks to a generous donation of seeds
by an anonymous donor,
we were able to host a seed giveaway at the local farmers' market!

My friend Jannah and I set up our display when the market started at 8 a.m.
Knowing we'd find an ample supply of local gardeners,
it didn't take long for our first taker to show up.
Who could turn down free seeds?

The stash included flower, herb and vegetable seeds,
all current and many organic.
The seeds were divided into two groups,
those that could be planted now (or saved until spring),
and those that would better be suited for sowing in the fall.
Folks couldn't get over how many wonderful varieties from which they had to pick!

My fellow intern and I had a smashing time,
getting to chat with the vendors
and sharing growing secrets with fellow gardeners.
The Master Gardeners will be hosting this event once a month
until the seeds are all gone.
That will take a while,
as the supply of seeds is fairly plentiful.
What a wonderful opportunity to do some giving back.

The Lincolnton Farmers' Market is open from 8-12 every Saturday
