Thrifty Thursday

Our community had a yard sale last weekend.
We are so glad we live toward the back of the development,
as this was the scene at the entrance.

Chaos!

I had recently read a post here
about using suitcases that can be used
for staging and double as storage.
A neighbor sold me this beauty
that will be used for just that purpose.

Lucky for me, my neighbor gave me first dibs
on 5 of these jars.
Guess what?
They're made in the USA!

Shopping just doesn't get much easier!
Hope you find a treasure in your neck of the woods!

The Practical Mason Jar

I have a thing for jars.
There have been times when it just makes my day
to come upon a great deal on them.
They are hands-down the best way
to store beans, rice, sugar and flour and more.

The seal is airtight and the clear glass
lets you know exactly what you have in the pantry.
I haven't ventured into the world of canning yet,
but I'm looking forward to exploring
the hundreds of ways that my jars can be filled
with scrumptious and nutritious goodies.

Here are a few choice ideas:

1.  A bit of wire and some sand (or pebbles) turns Mason jars into lanterns for tea lights or votives.

2.  Place cutlery at a party or picnic.

3.  Turn a quart-sized jar into a seed sprouter.

4.  Construct an on-the-wall storage idea using pipe straps and a length of scrap wood.

5.  Bake pies in a jar.

6. Serve ice cream, or jar up tea or lemonade, or pitchers of mixers for drinks; just stir in the spirits!

7.  Hang the jars with wire, then fill with string lights along a length of rope or clothes line.

8.  Catch those pesky fruit flies that often come home with you from the market.

9.  We keep our cotton and cotton swabs
right on the bathroom counter.

10.  This closet freshener was recently shared.

Jars have as many uses as folks who can dream them up.
There's a reason why they've been used
through the years.
Some things just never go out of style...

Here's a great post on ideas for the humble mason jar.

Thrifty and Grateful

A few treasures were found
when thrift store shopping the other day.
I may have to start a 12-step program for jar hoarders.
These are so cool with the glass tops.

I found a few just last month.
Imagine my surprise and delight to add another
to the collection!

The perfect home for one of my favorite things.

A gal's gotta stay well-stocked, after all!

These Pyrex bowls are the perfect size for cereal,
ice cream or in my case, my daily serving of oatmeal.
Four of the six for sale were picked up for 25 cents apiece!

The last thing I think about is clothes.
Don't like clothes shopping, trying on clothes,
deciding what goes with what.
This unusual long-sleeved shirt caught my eye.

The detail on the body and sleeves
is unlike anything I have in my closet.
I do like stuff that's different.

Purchasing used clothing never really occurred to me before.
Now I think about it as repurposing something practical.
The best part
is that I didn't have to step foot near a mall.
A true blessing in itself!
