The Maple Hill Hop 71

Maple Hill Hop

Welcome to
The Maple Hill Hop.
This is a hop for folks who love the outdoors.
Feel free to post about anything that's going on
OUTSIDE
in your neck of the woods,
no matter the season.
(Please share only outdoor posts.)

This weekend, we hosted a plant giveaway!
The garden was overflowing with Florida-friendly and native plants
and I am making more room for food crops.
The ornamentals are vital to a healthy garden,
as they attract beneficial insects and pollinators.
I just didn't need so much,
so I posted an ad on Craig's List for free plants.
Remember the phrase,
"If you build it, they will come"?
Well, they did.
They cleaned me out!
In a good way.

Now I have room to plant more food,
and the satisfaction of knowing that other folks
will be taking good care of the plants I no longer needed.
It feels so good to commune with other gardeners.
One couple even brought seeds to trade,
which I thought was so sweet.

With all the seedlings given me by Faye & Lynn,
I'll have a good start on two of the new beds I want to create.
They gave me extra broccoli, dinosaur kale and tomatoes,
so they'll get planted this week.
With the extra daylight hours,
I'll be digging until dark.
Whoo-hoo!
This gardening bug is one thing I don't mind spreading!

What's going on where you are?
HOP to it!

  1. Bah--still more cold. But it did warm into the 40's and the snow is melting quickly, so though I am far from being able to plant, it is encouraging.

  3. So very nice to host a plant giveaway!! Happy to hear it was successful. I'm sure the new plant owners were very grateful for the lovely gifts. Oh how jealous I am at the green {and lack of snow} in your photos. :)

I'll be jealous of you in summertime when we're melting here and can't grow much. ;0)

  5. That was a great idea to have a plant giveaway. It sure beats throwing away good plants and seeds.
