Thrifty Thursday-Stumped?

Our yard waste truck comes once a week
to pick up any garden debris folks may have to dispose of.
At some point, we hope to be able to compost most of our yard waste.

On a bike ride one morning,
I found a few of these stumps in front of a neighbor's house.
Destined for the garbage truck,
they looked just too good to pass up.
I knew I could do something with them.

I toted two of them home and added them to the garden.
They make the perfect perches for shallow bird baths.

Enjoy them, birdies!

Do you enjoy repurposing things in your garden?

  1. Nice find. And they make good perches for the smaller critters to get a look around. I enjoy finding goodies like that. Once , hubby and
I found a neat giant rusty old pulley ---it's one of my favorite decorative pieces in the garden. You just never know what you'll find.

  2. well, isn't that just a cute idea? I've seen people peel the bark and paint them and use them for small seats on the patio and indoors too.
I just saw a collection of 3 made into a coffee table setting. I like your idea best. Shady spots for the little critters. :)

  3. Daisy, I'm not too good at repurposing but reusing I like. A fence company in my city piles up all old wooden fencing that they remove in front of their supply yard for any one to take. Yes it's old but it's cedar and doesn't rot or decay. It just looks old. So that's the fencing I've been using to fence in my garden. Craig's list has many building material advertisements like concrete blocks, rocks, railroad ties, chain link fence, etc. for free. Tons of free pallets which can be used for all sorts of things are available almost daily. The ReStore is my friend both for dropping off and buying. It just feels right to get more use out of something that's not really ready for the dump yet, don't you think?

    Have a great reuse day.

    1. I am definitely of the mindset that things should be used up until they can't be anymore. We like the ReStore too!

  4. LOL, that sounds just like something I would do. How the heck did you "tote" them home!?!?!
