My goal for a while now,
has been to decrease the amount of refined sugar in my diet.
It's been easier than I would have first thought.
In the beginning, I substituted sucanat for sugar 1-for-1 in recipes.
I'm leaning now more toward natural sweeteners,
including the local honey that we are able to enjoy.
Since our temperatures are already making it feel like summer around here,
the craving for lemonade has hit.
No sugar added.
The sweetener of choice?
Honey.
Bingo!
Honey Lemonade
8 C water
6 lemons, juiced
(this was about 3/4 C)
1/2 C honey
Heat the water on medium-low just until warm.
Add honey and allow to dissolve
(this takes about 5-8 minutes).
Remove from heat and add lemon juice.
Chill and enjoy!
The sweetness is subtle, but so delicious.
I'm not sure if it's because I'm not used to the blast of sugar anymore,
but I now prefer the understated essence of sweet this recipe delivers.
Frozen strawberries were added as ice cubes
to add even more summertime freshness.
Let's toast to those service members and their families
who have given so much to our country.
May God bless and keep them all.
Sounds delicious! It's supposed to be in the upper 70's here Sunday and Monday so maybe I'll put this on the to-do list! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you will be enjoying nice temps! I'm drinking this stuff right up! ;0)

ReplyDeleteDaisy, it really hard to beat good old fashioned made lemonade, don't you think? I haven't had it in so long that I may just have to make some to remember how real lemonade should taste. I suppose in Florida you can find lemons that have been freshly picked from the tree. Not so much here in Nebraska. Tree ripened fruit is always so much better than the store bought fruit from who knows where in world it comes from these days.
Have a great lemonade day.
When it's so easy to make, there's no sense in buying it! ;0D
DeleteSounds so good! I love the addition of frozen strawberries. Then you get to eat them after you drink the lemonade! :)
ReplyDeleteI've actually been using sucanat a lot lately. For a few months now, it's what I've been putting in my coffee. Works pretty well!
Hey there! Glad you are finding the sucanat a good substitute. Enjoy!
