Since we cook from scratch,
our house often smells like food.
Garlic is usually involved.
Most days I don't mind one bit.
As we are starting to think about listing our home for sale,
I thought it would be a good idea
to start getting into the habit of
improving the experience for potential buyers
using all of the senses.
One easy thing to do is to simmer some lovely combination
of aromas on the stovetop.
A simple mixture of water, cinnamon and lemon
kept simmering on the stove
adds a clean and homey scent to the air.
Any combination can be used such as:
orange and cinnamon
apple pie spice
lemon and honey
thyme and lavender
vanilla
It's important to remember
that all of our senses are engaged
in our decision making.
Decluttering and staging are two vital tasks
for home sellers to keep in mind,
but adding the extra forethought of aroma
can be a real bonus.
One Simple Thing
When you look at how the sense of smell plays into our memories--wow. Yep-better make the house smell yummy. I'll throw fresh baked cookies into that!

So true!!!
DeleteWishing you all the luck that special someone comes real soon and buys your house :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane. I know there is just the right person waiting for our home.
DeleteFreshly baked bread works pretty good too. People are absolutely amazed that someone actually bakes bread and boy do they remember it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. Homebaked anything is great, but sometimes you can't do it right before you show the house. It's amazing how our sense of smell takes us back...
DeleteAWWW! that is wonderful! I am so excited for you! are you going to Maple Hill soon?
ReplyDeleteWe sure hope so...
DeleteI couldn't have said it better myself! ;)
