Welcome to Garden Friday!
We got over 1/2" of rain from tropical storm Ida
on two separate days.
Our thoughts and prayers go to those affected by the storm.
Mother Nature's strength is astonishing.
One raised bed was filled with soil and planted with leek,
three types of lettuce and tatsoi.
The other beds will be worked on over the weekend.
An order will be placed for cover crops and seeds that I was low on
so that I have a better chance to restock my supply.
With seed shortages, I'm ordering early.
I'm also getting better at saving seeds where I can.
The cover crop will be used on the bed where we have grown
garlic for the past two years.
The garlic will planted elsewhere.
The beautyberry is starting to bear fruit
and will soon be feeding some of our visiting wildlife.
At last count, there were 17 eggs
and last night I counted 10 caterpillars on the milkweed.
Oh, I see some gorgeous Monarchs in our future!
I love the bright golden flowers almost as much as the bees!
Personally, I'll be hoping for more rain!
Lacinato kale and buttercrunch lettuce are my favs. That gazebo frame is perfect for the loofah! My goodness it looks healthy and full. Well, I'm happy you finally received rain. Too bad it couldn't come over the course of a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed for you that you'll be the recipients of more. Our tomatoes taste a bit watered down this year but I'm good with that - I'd rather have a little less flavor in the tomatoes and get a well hydrated garden.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful holiday weekend my friend!
Yes, any kale is good kale!
DeleteThank you for visiting, Staci!
I'm so glad you got some rain. We did too. I saw a Monarch in the garden this week, but didn't think to look on the milkweed. That's very cool, and what a happy looking loofah you have! Here's to healthy fall gardens.
ReplyDeleteYes, rain all around!
DeleteIf you've had a visit from a Monarch, I'll bet you have eggs!
Yes, healthy fall gardens with less bugs!
Oh, butterfly eggs. Congrats!! I look forward to seeing photos.
ReplyDeleteThat's actually a caterpillar. If you click on the photo, it gets larger, and it's easier to see.
DeleteI hope your fall garden does as well as your summer garden has. I'm just getting my fall planting started now. Looking forward to lettuce again!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Leigh. Here's to successful fall crops for all!
