One Simple Thing-Shoe Rack

One of the first impressions visitors get of your home
is the front entrance.
Not only is it important to make it inviting for others,
but if you use your front door,
it sets the tone for what happens
after you turn that key in the lock.

We have a hall tree in our foyer
on which we can hang our coats and hats.
(In newer Florida homes, there are no coat closets.)

Our shoes were lined up neatly next to the front door.

One of the things that makes a house look orderly
is simply getting things off of the floor.

I like the idea of not tracking dirt into the house,
especially since we currently have carpet (>:/)
in most of the house.
I knew I needed a better solution.

An inexpensive shoe rack will do wonders
to add a sleek look to an entrance.
It's a good idea to think vertical
when you have a small area.
We can now house our shoes here
as soon as we come in from outside
and there is even room for guests shoes.
This type of rack could work in a mudroom,
laundry room, back porch, or even in a closet.

One Simple Thing

  1. Yep, I am guilty of having so much crap piled right at the front door. Especially gloves this time of year. I need a glove rack ;)

  2. I need a sign for my entryway--DON'T LOOK NOW--wait until you're IN the house!!

  3. That is a good idea. I am constantly putting shoes in the kids' closets, but they always wind up in a pile by the front door!

  4. We have a shoe rack too but should likely get another (or pare down our shoes!) great post - it is truly the simple things that make a home really function wonderfully :)

  5. Jane-I'm sure you'll come up with something! ;0)

    Sue-;0)

Kelly-You might as well keep 'em where they will need them!

Katy-Yeah, we don't have a lot of shoes, but this shoe rack can be stacked if need be.

  6. Great solution! We don't have a downstairs coat closet either and it drives me mad. In the front entry, we have a little built in bench/shelves/hook piece and an IKEA shoe holder. I love them both but we use the back door so it's still kind of worthless. I'm still looking for a backdoor solution. Oh well, one step at a time.
