The Maple Hill Hop 108
Welcome to
The Maple Hill Hop.
This is a hop for folks who love the outdoors.
Feel free to post about anything that's going on
OUTSIDE
in your neck of the woods,
no matter the season.
no matter the season.
(Please share only outdoor posts.)
We're on the road again.
This time of year lends itself to outdoor activities,
so we headed down to The Florida Flywheeler's Tractor Club.
It was a gorgeous day for browsing the antique vehicles
and the large flea market area.
Tractors as far as the eye can see.
Members of the club share their collections
on only a select number of days each year.
The barrel train is a treat for young visitors.
One of our favorite stops is the Fire Museum.
This barn houses all kinds of vintage equipment,
as well as fire panels and old pull stations,
which C just eats up!
Several restored fire trucks are also on display.
We always feel at home there.
The flea market area is always a fun cruise.
Hundreds of vendors peddle everything from apples to zippers.
Tools and electronics get the boys' attention,
while I marvel at the array of Corningware and cast iron.
Get a load of this portable sauna.
You just never know what you're gonna find here!
I brought home this amazing collapsible metal fishing basket.
It was one of the first things that caught my eye,
but I wanted to look around a bit more.
By the time we were ready to leave,
I was still thinking about that basket and what I could do with it.
(I think it would make a unique and wonderful light fixture.)
So we went back to the seller and picked it up for a few bucks.
He was kind enough to throw in something for C
to add to his electronics collection.
This lil' cutie struck a pose as soon as I readied my camera.
A good time was had by all.
Here are some of our past visits to this event:
Have you been spending time outside?

Thrifty Thursday-Best Hair Rinse
I've been blessed with easy hair.
It's naturally wavy and thick,
and it takes very little to maintain it.
I'm not a fru-fru kinda gal.
It doesn't get blown-dry, hot ironed or moussed.
In fact, it's never even been dyed, believe it or not.
One problem that's always plagued me has been tangles.
Because of its thickness,
it would be very challenging to comb through it after shampooing.
And I've never been able to use a comb on it when it's dry.
Well, a recent discovery changed all of that.
This recipe has made my hair easier to manage
so that my routine is even more streamlined.
Two readily-available ingredients, and less than 3 minutes,
and you'll be on your way to taming your tresses.
Simply add 1 T apple cider vinegar per 1 C of water.
Some recipes call for distilled or filtered water,
but I figure that the final rinse is with plain ole' H2O,
so why make it complicated?
The plastic spray bottle stays right in the shower.
It's best if shaken not stirred right before use.
Spritz the solution on your hair, including ends,
and let sit for a minute or so while you finish washing up.
Then just rinse everything, from head to toes.
Keeping the recipe right on the bottle
means that I am always ready to refill as needed!
The bonus is that it costs just pennies to keep yourself looking good!
Another thing to cross off the shopping list!
My locks have never been more manageable.
Whenever I wash and rinse my hair, I comb it out, braid it,
and take the braids out the next morning.
(Can I tell you how thrilling it was
when my hair was finally long enough to braid?)
***SQUEAL!***
Couldn't be easier,
and I now look forward to washing my hair
because I know it will be tangle-free.
I hope you'll give it a go and let me know whatcha think!

Seems like field trips are a weekly event
now that fall has ushered itself in.
We again took part in the
39-mile yard sale that spanned from
Haines City to Frostproof here in Central Florida.
Last year was the first time we participated
and we were ready to see what bargains were to be had.
All along both sides of Scenic Highway 17,
folks were lined up selling and buying.
It was hotter than expected,
so we had to cut our browsing to a minimum.
C and I just can't take the heat anymore,
so we quickly scanned tables for treasures.
When's the last time you saw one of these beauties?
Everything from appliances to zebra slippers could be found.
With 39 miles to explore,
there was sure to be something we couldn't live without.
Here are a few things I picked up.
At the first stop, I spied this unusual glass colander.
It doesn't have any markings on it,
so I'm not sure who made it.
I just thought it was so different, I had to get it.
In fact, I could almost hear it calling to me,
"Take me home. You need me."
For one dollar, it will get plenty of use.
I love the graduated bottom,
because it means it will fit a variety of pots.
We can use it for steaming just about anything
and the beauty of it is
that it works with what we already own.
I'd been looking for a melon baller for a while.
Who knew it would be so hard to find?
At our last stop, I found the perfect one.
There was also someone selling
all different kinds of tweezers.
These will come in handy when planting lettuce,
as they are just the right size to grasp those tiny seeds.
If it hadn't been so hot, I would've been
dancing in the street!
It was a fun, if not tiring day.
Glad we came home with a few treasures
that cost under a five-spot!
