Welcome back to
The Maple Hill Hop,
where we celebrate what's happening OUTSIDE our doors.
The native blue-eyed grass is coming back nicely
after a long winter's nap.
It's my absolute favorite color-periwinkle.
The mums and pansies greet visitors.
The native petunias line the front walk.
These are part of the "blue garden".
The bulbine display a splash of yellow and are maintenance-free.
The porterweed near the front bed trellis are starting to awaken too.
Gerbera daisies are one of my favorites that just keep coming back.
They scream Spring!
This tray of scallions was given to me by my farmer friend, Lynn.
He wanted me to see for myself how these amazing crops develop.
I had set them in this shallow clear tray so that I could witness the roots grow.
With just a bit of water and sunshine,
they went from mere bulbs to hosting a healthy root system.
So much energy!
I planted them deep in the pot we have next to the patio.
The lettuce now has company.
We'll see how they do with a lot more space.

Daisy, cold weather is still giving us planting fits here in Nebraska. The temperatures have been down into the lower 20s for the last five days with barely above freezing during the days. Now the threat is for wind up to 50 MPH gusts tomorrow. I'm anxious to get out in the garden but this really is quite normal for this time of the year here.
