Magical Split Pea Soup

We like scratch food,
although sometimes it takes a bit longer to prepare.
This soup recipe didn't take any time at all
because we employed the crockpot to work its magic.
This is a great recipe for folks new to crockpot cooking,
or anyone who wants good, hearty food without all the fuss.
Split peas are one legume that need no pre-soaking,
so it's just a matter of throwing it all into the slow cooker and turning it on.
Any additions from your own garden would fit right in.
There's nothing quite as satisfying on a cool fall day
as a bowl of homemade soup.
And when it practically makes itself,
what could be better?

Split Pea Soup
 1 C dried split peas
4 C water/vegetable broth (or any combination)
5 medium carrots, cut into chunks
1 small onion, diced
1 t salt
1/2 t pepper
1 bay leaf

Place all ingredients in slow cooker.
Set to low and cook 8-10 hours.
Remove bay leaf.
